Their money was used to contribute to Thomas Edison’s light bulb technology, where an enormous amount of money could be made off the general public by them selling electricity instead of giving it away freely through Tesla’s technology.

Tell the public as little as you have to. Keep them satisfied so they will not ask too many questions. Make them think the powers-that-be are also just now learning of the discovery of this new form of energy.
