Kundalini as a means and outcome of mastering energy is an actual biological process that when observed objectively closely follows its mythic description.

J. C. Cooper defines it as “the serpent which lies coiled at the base of the spine in the chakra known as the muladhara [the Japanese like hara] and which lies dormant until awakened by yogic and spiritual practices when it begins to ascend through the chakras [endocrine glands or Go Dai], bringing increasing powers into play, until it reaches the highest point in total awareness and realization.

It is latent energy; unawakened being; the sleeping serpent power; the primordial shakti [creative female energy] in man. To awaken it is to break the ontological plane and attain the sacred Center: enlightenment. The symbolism of the kundalini is associated with that of the serpent, or dragon, or spine, the world axis.”

Kundalini is a healing energy that is said to lie dormant at the base of the spine in the sacrum bone. Through meditation, it can be awakened. The kundalini is connected directly to human awareness and infinite intelligence.

Through the enlightenment and self-realization gained through meditation, you can awaken the kundalini in the process of balancing the other chakras, concentrating on breathing as it flows to throughout the energy centres of your body.

Becoming clear, awakened, and enlightened through meditation you can attain a new clarity and vision of life; you can see everything from a completely different dimension.

Fundamentally, successful kundalini meditation is to move towards a higher plane of perception; to transform from a limited physical perception to a higher awareness of endless possibilities.

Kundalini is considered to be the microcosmic manifestation of the Goddess within the individual human body. Lying dormant at the base of the spine until awakened, she moves up the spine toward union with Shiva, the masculine aspect of consciousness seated in the crown of the head.

Many Eastern teachers believe the awakening of Kundalini within the human body to be an essential prerequisite of enlightenment. Like the king cobra she is associated with, Kundalini is both magnificent and deadly and must be treated with the utmost respect and caution.

The Indian yogi Gopi Krishna has written a compelling account of his experience with the inadvertently awak-ened Kundalini, whose tremendous power, like a stray lightning bolt, nearly destroyed his life and burned his body to an ember.

Obviously, a world of difference sepa-rates the experience of suddenly awaken-ing Kundalini, who can terrify and blind the devotee with her power, from the experience of gently moving into harmony with the serpentine energies of your body.

All wave movements of the body are manifestations of Kundalini. But the difference between them and the classic kundalini experience is as great as the difference between the voltage of the electric current that illumines a light bulb and the gargantuan power of a lightning bolt.

The arousal of the body’s latent kundalini is often accompanied by vio-lent symptoms of pain, flashing light, sleeplessness, and so on.

Unfortunately, in the West, many people undergoing a kundalini experience are heavily sedated or even institutionalized since the mainstream medical profession has no understanding of these processes.

Like lightning, Kundalini is not a play-thing but rather, in the words of Gopi Krishna, “the queen and architect of the living organism, having the power to mould it, transform it, or even to destroy it as she will.”

Those paths of spiritual prac-tice that aim at purposefully awakening the Kundalini are among the most danger-ous and require the highest degree of skill, purity, and commitment of both teacher and student.

At the same time we should bear in mind that the body is an electro-magnetic system, and Kundalini—as the force that governs its currents—is omnipresent. To speak of a “kundalini experience” is in some ways mis-leading, since our entire life is a kundalini experience.

Kundalini expresses herself through sexuality; kundalini is the force that causes visions and other psychic experiences, making the medi-tator’s body tremble, go into trance, or dance in ways his conscious mind could never devise.

Kundalini is also the source of the power that flows through a healer’s hands. Kundalini, like electricity, becomes frightening only when she overpowers the body, and even then, if the process can be allowed to run its course, it will in most cases reveal itself as an initiation into higher levels of consciousness.

If golden kundalini isn’t invoked, the red kundalini can be too intense. Where blocked, it will stimulate negative issues within the related chakra.

The golden kundalini softens the red kundalini and provides balance. Paradoxically, radiant kundalini is always present, as it expressed from the center of each chakra, which contains our spiritual truths.

We must recognize our wholeness and enlightenment, however, in order to fully access its effects.

The other two forms of kundalini are the golden kundalini and radiant kundalini.

Golden kundalini guides spiritual energy in from the spiritual realms through our top chakras to spiritualize our system.

Once it has integrated with the red kundalini, which rises upward from the first chakra through the rest of the chakras, the two kundalini energies marry, as does our ability to understand Divine Source and subsequent mental ideals and our physical needs. Radiant kundalini is enlightenment energy.

Upon accepting the unconditional love and grace of Divine Source, it emanates from the center of each chakra, appearing like radiating sun beams. Radiant kundalini usually first opens in the heart upon full acceptance of the Divine’s unconditional love.
