Awakening to the Extraordinary – You can activate your inner brain

Awakening to the Extraordinary – You can activate your inner brain

Each of us is gifted with great imagination and creativity that originates in God’s eternal reservoir of life. Only if we open our minds to grasp the creative endeavors that spring from the ever-flowing fountain and only if we share them with others, can we say that we are truly successful. When you share good, positive things, everyone benefits—the giver as well as the receiver.

Success is inevitable in this way. As it is written, he who gives receives ten to one hundred fold. Creativity is an unconscious thought with no limits. It is untamed, with no sense of guilt or shame but with an unending desire to be free, to be unrestricted to travel beyond this earthy world. In this way, the essence of life can be imagined and re-imagined in each of our lives.

The creative mind is one that has listened to the inner voice. It is this voice that leads us to success. All of us have the potential for creative endeavors; it does not belong to any single person or group but to us all. By our very nature, we are creative beings.

We are the product of God’s creation of the universe. We reach creativity by appreciating the diversity of the mind and the perplexity of its thought processes. Complex as it may seem, creativity is an intangible treasure of the mind that pervades our entire thought processes. It is a barometer that determines how far a person has reached into his inner treasure chest of life, brought out the jewels, and shared them with the world.

The synthesis of science and Yoga is necessary for the accomplishment of this object, because Yoga is the link between science and spirituality. The tremendous inner creative energy of man can brought into play through Yoga.

Sixth plane. The sixth plane is the realm of hyperconsciousness and the gamma ray frequency band. In this plane the awareness of being one with the whole of life is experienced. Sixth seal. This seal is associated with the pineal gland and the gamma ray frequency band. The reticular formation that filters and veils the knowingness of the subconscious mind is opened when this seal is activated. The opening of the brain refers to the opening of this seal and the activation of its consciousness and energy.

Enlightenment. Enlightenment is the full realization of the human person, the attainment of immortality, and unlimited mind. It is the result of raising the kundalini energy sitting at the base of the spine to the seventh seal that opens the dormant parts of the brain. When the energy penetrates the lower cerebellum and the midbrain, and the subconscious mind is opened, the individual experiences a blinding flash of light called enlightenment.

The energy flow through the head has two poles: the point between the eyebrows (the third eye) and the medullar center (the area at the back of the head where the head meets the spine, adjacent to the medulla oblongata, or brainstem). The medullar center is a portal through which energy from the super-conscious mind flows into the body.

In the New Testament, Jesus says, “Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God:’ “The mouth of God” is a metaphor for the medullar center, and “word” is a metaphor for universal life force (the Holy Spirit). Jesus was trying to tell his followers the life force in the body is a function of universal super-conscious energy flow through the medullar center and not simply a function of the energy ingested through food. The medullar sub-energy center is very sensitive and can be blocked easily by stress, physical trauma, and negative emotional energies. From the medullar center, energy flows in two directions: down to the base of the spine to help power the body and forward through the brain to the forehead, or third eye.

The medullar center acts as a battery that energetically fuels both the body and our higher awareness. For the same reason, the point between the eyebrows is a place where intuitive insight is sharp.

Opening the Lotus of a Thousand Petals

By Dr David Frawley a.k.a. Pandit Vamadeva Shastri

The thousand-petal lotus of the head or the crown chakra is the highest of the seven chakras. It contains the powers of all the chakras below it, which can be viewed as different aspects or facets of its energy. From the standpoint of modern science we can call this chakra of the head as the “inner brain” or “spiritual brain,” the essence of intelligence, which is reflected in a limited manner in the outer workings of the physical brain.

When the outer brain becomes quiet, the inner brain spontaneously comes into function. This is the spiritual secret of our higher evolution in consciousness that the ancient yogis and rishis of the Himalayas knew and understood.

The inner brain has tremendous creativity, deep calm and powerful insights far beyond the capacities of the outer brain that is largely mechanical, instinctual and emotional in its reactions. Only when we learn to access this inner brain can we go beyond our human conditioning and its conflict-promoting patterns rooted in personal memory and collective history.

Evolutionary, cultural and spiritual advances generally occur when we become able to access the inner brain and its higher powers of vision and insight. While this is usually temporary, if not vicarious, we can learn to promote the functioning of the inner brain as our natural state of awareness.

In the ordinary human being, the inner brain is largely dormant, only coming into function in special moments of inspiration, genius, discovery, insight, or love. Few of us know how to keep it awaken within us. The inner brain can be developed by yogic and Vedic practices, in which its higher awareness centers are approached in a systematic manner, not simply as an experiment but as a way of life.

The outer brain carries conditioned responses that promote division and violence through emphasizing separative identities, power and control in the external world. Its focus is the ego, which is an attempt to assert ourselves over other people and over nature as a whole. The ego-mind is a legacy of the past and gets us caught in destructive programmed reactions, rather than facilitating creative responses that promote unity and harmony. The inner brain reflects the eternal present and is not bound by time. It can hold all time in a single space, and envision the past and future in a single continuum.

This means that the outer brain is the conditioned “old brain” caught in memory. The inner brain is the “new brain” that can develop direct perception in the present. The inner brain is more active in children, but our educational systems shut it down by encouraging mechanical learning rather than creative exploration.

For human evolution and for social peace we must learn to activate the inner brain. This is more than a matter of the right technology, which can be helpful, particularly in measuring how the inner brain comes into manifestation, but it also requires the tools of higher awareness through Vedic and dharmic teachings.

We can identify the inner or spiritual brain of the thousand-petal lotus with Soma, the amrit or nectar of immortality of yogic thought. The thousand-petal lotus is called the Soma center in Vedic thought. (Note my book “Soma in Yoga and Ayurveda: the Power of Rejuvenation and Immortality.”) Activating this inner brain will also aid in rejuvenation and revitalization of the physical body.

We can also correlate the Soma and inner brain with the Tarpak Kapha of Ayurveda, the form of Kapha that lubricates the brain and nervous system and is responsible for contentment, happiness, harmony, equilibrium and countering pain. Through controlling Tarpak Kapha we can control our brain chemistry and go beyond the need for medicinal or recreational drugs to do this for us.

Meditation

Meditation is the main tool to access the inner brain, as it silences the outer brain to allow the inner brain to work. But meditation of this higher nature is hard to achieve directly when the outer brain is active and has not been disciplined. This is particularly true today when our brains have been bombarded by and conditioned to extensive electrical impulses through technology, the mass media and the internet.

Mantra

First we need to calm and silence the outer brain, which requires removing its deep seated conditioning that is largely beyond the control of our conscious minds. This conditioning of the outer brain is linked to the vibratory pattern of memory that is rooted in the habitual movements of our breath and senses. Such conditioning reflects both collective and individual influences and is embedded not only the brain but also in the organs and cells of the body. We need to change how we think, breathe, and look at the world and ourselves in order to alter these tenacious patterns. For this we need a specific methodology for changing the vibration of the brain.

Mantra is the main tool for changing the vibratory pattern of the brain and the mind. There are specific mantras for each individual that can be used in order to counter the outer sound disturbances of the brain and open up the inner vibratory resonances of higher awareness, compassion and creativity. Once the outer brain is attuned to the mantra it can be connected to the inner brain, which in turn has the potential of linking us with cosmic intelligence, and to non-embodied pure consciousness that pervades all space and time.

The thousand-petal lotus is the chakra of a thousand syllables or all mantric combinations. To approach it requires that we develop an intuitive sense of the essence of sound vibration, which is the vibration of pure consciousness within and around us. This is a sense of harmony and unity with all, not simply as a conception, but as the underlying vibration of our being that is one with all existence.

Sounds convey meaning, which has an affinity with sound. At the highest level, sound is meaning, not as verbal sound but as the vibration of awareness. That non-localized, undifferentiated or unmanifest meaning is the oneness of all things in the universe, which is the message of Divine love, bliss and unity that is the origin and end of all. All things convey that essence of pure existence as their inner meaning, above and beyond any outer meanings, indications or associations that they may have.

The intellect, a product of the brain, though consisting of the finest most ethereal substance, is bound to time and space. Together with feeling it produces imagination. Imagination belongs to ethereal substance but it has no spiritual power. It can only act retroflectively, can only stir the feelings of its author but never send forth a source of strength to others, it can inflame his enthusiasm but never influence his surroundings. This stamps it as belonging to an inferior order of phenomena. How different if compared to the inner voice! The inner voice has spiritual, creative and animating power which it can send forth to fire and convince others. Thus we can observe on the one side the inner voice, which being purely spiritual is beyond the limits of time and space and on the other side the body comprising instincts, intellect. feelings and imagination all of which depend on time and space. Although feeling belongs to the finest and most delicate part or quality of material substance, it can never coalesce with the inner voice, neither can it trouble it in any way. The inner voice (intuition) being purely spiritual is independent of time and space. whereas feeling belongs to ethereal matter and depends on instinct and intellect, is thus on a lower step. If it is really the Inner Voice that manifests itself in man, it will always be a pure and true voice that he hears. But the greater number of men have cut themselves off from perceiving it. They have placed feeling in the foreground which they mistake for the inner voice. In following the suggestions of his feeling, a man is misled and suffers many disappointments. The result of these mistakes and failures is that he is inclined to rely all the more firmly on his intellect, his judgment alone, never guessing that it is the cooperation of the intellect with feeling that has deceived him: and a further result of these errors is that man forswears all spiritual phenomena as having no place in his experience and turns all his interests to the inferior phenomena of matter.

The fundamental error, here as elsewhere, is man’s voluntary subjection to his intellect which means that he also subjects himself to its limitations, within the narrow confines of time and space. The intellect is a product of the brain and the brain belongs to gross matter alone. All that a man does, he does of his own free-will. He is fettered, but he fetters himself. If he were not willing, it could never be that his intellect so dominates him that he can no longer perceive or understand what lies beyond time and space. For such a man a curtain has fallen between the Temporal and the Spiritual. The only voice he can now hear, is that of his feeling which cooperates with his intellect, for his inner voice has been silenced. It would be wrong to say that feeling subjugates the inner voice. For intuition or the inner voice is the most powerful gift of man and can never be subjugated or prejudiced by anything. The truth is that man makes himself incapable of recognising the inner voice. If man fails in this it is only through his own fault; it is never because of the strength or weakness of this or that gift. The supreme gift, the living power which is man’s most precious and immortal possession, each individual has received equally, and no man has an advantage over another. The only difference  lies in the use to which it is put. Neither can this essential gift, this immortal spark, ever be dimmed or tarnished. It remains unsullied, however degrading the surroundings may be. You must only tear down the barrier which you yourselves have raised by the voluntary limitation to which you have subjected your power of conception. Then without any transition whatever, it will arise again as pure and distinct as at the beginning, will develop to its full strength and link you to the Light and to the Spirit. Rejoice that such a treasure lies safe and protected within you. It is of no consequence whether you may be highly esteemed by your neighbour or not. All uncleanness that has collected and formed a bulwark round this spark that comes from the spiritual world, can be cast aside with an effort of honest goodwill. If you have then done the work and lifted the treasure, you are just as good as he who never buried it. But woe to him who, from indolence continues to refrain from making this effort. In the Day of Judgment this treasure will be taken from him and he will then cease to exist. Therefore awake, you who are holding aloof, you who have stifled your inner voice at the suggestion of your intellect whose power of conception is undeniably limited.

Have a care and listen to the summons sent you! It may be in the shape of a terrible grief, a severe mental shock or supreme, pure joy which is capable of lifting the ominous cloud of base sentiment hanging over and oppressing you. Do not let such calls be made in vain! They are fingerposts to show you the way. But it is better that you do not wait for them, but set out with the serious intention to do good and rise spiritually. In this way the partition will soon become thinner and lighter, till it disappears al together and the pure, untarnished spark bursts forth into flame. But this first step can and must be taken by the individual himself, else he cannot be helped. Meanwhile you must distinguish clearly between wish and will. Wishing is not sufficient to effect progress. It must be will which implies action, as a necessary condition, for he who seriously wills begins to act. Many a man will err being subject to his intellect and often take a wrong path; but he must not let himself be discouraged from striving forward on that account, for he also will reach the winning post. With him it is a case of restoring his judgment to its natural and proper condition, and during his wanderings on the side paths he will gradually be able to remove all hindrances. Therefore, advance bravely! If you are inspired with serious goodwill, every path will finally lead to the goal.
